Linearity of the Function between the Sound Pressure Level of Speech and the Negative Peak Amplitude of the Differentiated Glottal Flow for Voices of Different Intensities

چکیده
The negative peak amplitude of the differentiated glottal flow (dpeak) is known to correlate strongly with the sound pressure level (SPL) of speech. Therefore, the function between dpeak and SPL is usually modeled as a single line. In this survey, the relationship between dpeak and SPL is revisited by analyzing glottal flows inverse filtered from speech sounds of largely different intensities. It is shown that in modeling SPL-dpeakgraphs the slope of the line matching soft phonation is larger than the slope of the line for normal and loud speech. This result suggests that vocal intensity is affected not only by the single amplitude domain value of the voice source, dpeak, but also by the shape of the differentiated glottal flow near the instant of the

Time-domain parameterization of the closing phase of glottal airflow waveform from voices over a large intensity range
The aim of this paper is to analyze and compare two time–domain parameterization methods of the glottal flow waveform on a large intensity range. The first parameter is the classical closing quotient which indicates the portion of a period where the glottis is closing. The second parameter is the recently developed normalized amplitude quotient which is defined using the ratio between the maxim...
متن کاملExperimental investigation on sound of a centrifugal blower and fluctuating pressure on its volute
The Research has shown that the primary sound source in centrifugal turbomachines is the blade passing frequency noise, which is caused by due to impac rotor exit flow with the volute and the wild pressure fluctuations. In this paper, a centrifugal blower with forward facing blades has been selected and the sound created by it in the output channel has been investigated in different operating c...
متن کاملAn amplitude quotient based method to analyze changes in the shape of the glottal pulse in the regulation of vocal intensity.
This study presents an approach to visualizing intensity regulation in speech. The method expresses a voice sample in a two-dimensional space using amplitude-domain values extracted from the glottal flow estimated by inverse filtering. The two-dimensional presentation is obtained by expressing a time-domain measure of the glottal pulse, the amplitude quotient (AQ), as a function of the negative...
متن کاملSteady Flow Through Modeled Glottal Constriction
The airflow in the modeled glottal constriction was simulated by the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow, and the corresponding Reynolds equations for turbulent flow in generalized, nonorthogonal coordinates using a numerical method. A two-dimensional model of laryngeal flow is considered and aerodynamic properties are calculated for both laminar and turbulent steady flows...
متن کاملAnalyzing the effect of secondary excitations of the vocal tract on vocal intensity in different loudness conditions
For voiced speech the main excitation of the vocal tract occurs at the end of the glottal closing phase when the rate of change of the flow reaches its absolute maximum. This study presents a straightforward method that yields a numerical value to characterize the effect of the main excitation on vocal intensity. The method, Energy Ratio by Modified Excitation (ERME), takes advantage of the glo...
